my journey

There is a saying, “you unexpectedly achieve what you never envisioned.” The saying is accurate in my case.

Here is how my story went. Before moving to the US, I had planned to get a nursing degree. However, because of my circumstance, I had to something else.

Moving to America alone was not easy, and additionally I din’t know English. I needed to learn a new language and find a new career. In definite, I started my life from zero.

My first year, I was in ESL classes. After my English got improved, I went for beauty licenses, got a GED, and went to community collage for one year and half, majoring in Nursing.

It was difficult for me to achieve my goal as a nurse when I had no support finically. I had to work full-time, and at the same time, I went to collage full-time. Unfortunately, I had to give up on achieving a nursing degree. Since I don’t only support myself, I also have my family to worry about financially.

Being a beautician was never my dream. However, it was a job that helped support me financially and get me to where my dream goal was in the beginning. Thus, I was thankful that I had a job; I grew to love what I do regardless of whether it was my ideal job or not. It has become my career till today.

I have always been a perfectionist. I heard some people don’t provide good work when they don’t love their job. It is the opposite in my case. In any job I have, I produce good work. It is because I appreciate that I have a job, and I care about my reputation. I don’t like to hear anyone complain about my work. It does’t make me happy. In the beauty industry, providing beauty services, it is not just painting nails or putting on fake lashes. It is more about art that improves client’s mood. It makes them happy. Their happiness makes me enjoy being in the beauty industry.

What also makes me enjoy doing what I am doing is that I have met so many amazing people. I have had so many good conversations with them. Sometime, I am their therapist. I like to consider myself helping people release their stress. It makes me happy to see a smile on my clients’ faces everytime they come in.

It has been a long journey for me, and that journey has not necessarily been going smoothly as I wish it would, but it keeps going.

last but not least, I want to remind you that my dream or yours is not most matter, but what truly matter is that we are willing to let go the dream we had that we didn’t achieve due to circumstances that disrupted us. We need to learn not to give up but to continue with whatever opportunity we have and learn to appreciate. I am an example because I am dependent on myself. I have to adjust to any situation that occurs. Also, thanks to my upbringing made me who I am today, who appreciates everything I do. Therefore, I am embracing my career, and I am pursuing to expand my beauty business soon.
